Gamecocks Land Transfer Edge Rusher From ACC
Since the end of the 2022 football season, the edge position has been identified as the biggest position of need for Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks this offseason after some surprise portal defections and legal troubles for another edge rusher decimated the position group. While a multitude of names have trickled out into the portal this offseason, there was one player that from the beginning looked to fit exactly what the Gamecocks were looking for, and that was Syracuse defensive end Jatius Geer.
Geer reportedly made a visit to Columbia this past weekend, a bit of a homecoming for him considering his hometown of Anderson, SC is just a little over two hours away from Williams-Brice stadium. For Geer, it appears that home is where the heart is, as he announced his commitment to the Gamecocks on social media on Thursday afternoon.
Geer played in 14 games, including 12 starts, during his time with the orange, and made a massive jump this past Fall, where he recorded 33 total tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. He'll look to provide proven depth to a defensive end position that for South Carolina has been lacking over the past few months.
