Edrees Farooq Signs With Tennessee

2024 three-star safety Edrees Farooq (Baltimore, Md.) has signed his national letter of intent with the Tennessee Volunteers.
In this story:

Early national signing day is upon us, and the Tennessee Volunteers are hoping to finish strong. They've recruited at a high rate under head coach Josh Heupel and brought in some major difference-makers in their 2023 signing class. Volunteer Country will provide readers with an in-depth breakdown of each signee.

Safety Edrees Farooq is the X commit to turn in their national letter of intent. He is the No. 567 player in the cycle, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. Take a look at what the Vols are getting.

Prospect: Edrees Farooq

Projected Position: Field Side Safety

Vitals: 5-11 and 180 pounds

School: St. Frances Academy (Baltimore, Maryland)

Frame: Farooq maximizes his physical skillset. While he isn't the tallest or longest player on the field, he carries a good deal of muscle and approaches contact without fear. He may be nearing his physical ceiling, but you don't have to be that big to play deep safety, and he already checks the boxes for that spot.

Athleticism: An absolute burner that has the best change of direction in Tennessee's signing class, bar none. His ankle flexion is elite, and he can change his route to the ball three or four times on any given play. A gifted athlete that can shrink space and adjust to difficult angles if need be.

Instincts: St. Frances has empowered Farooq, allowing him to play free and chase what he sees. He isn't overzealous, but if it's time to attack, he takes the opportunity. Will likely be a fun "disguise" player for this coaching staff once he reaches the next level, because his movements are so unpredictable for an offensive player.

Polish: Has been playing top-tier competition throughout his high school career. Physically and athletically, he should come in and push everyone in the room around him. Farooq has concise technique that begins presnap - he tailors his stance and strategy toward his matchup, which should also reflect how polished he is mentally.

Bottom Line: Farooq didn't get a ton of national attention playing in the DMV area, but the tape shows a really good football player with a high floor. Tennessee needed a strong, ranger safety add in the 2024 cycle, and they got a good one with Farooq.
