Longhorns 2024 Class Rank Rising in On3 Top 25

The Texas Longhorns will need business to pick up in their class of 2024 if they want to avoid having their worst recruiting class since 2017.
In this story:

The Texas Longhorns have landed 13 commitments in next year's recruiting cycle, which is the 12th-most of what will be 16 Southeastern Conference teams in 2024.

But the Longhorns weren't hampered badly by their lack of quantity, as they check in at No. 17 in On3's post-Elite-11-Finals-and-Overtime-OT7 team recruiting rankings. They rank ninth in the SEC, but certainly have a lot of time to potentially flirt with a top-10 class in 2024.

While over half of Texas' class are four-star recruits, the upper echelon of Longhorns commitments are No. 5 running back Jerrick Gibson, top-30 receiver Aeryn Hampton, No. 13 safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell and No. 12 interior offensive lineman Daniel Cruz, according to On3's Industry Comparison.

The Longhorns are becoming known as a quarterback destination, but the only commitment under center is from the No. 30 gunslinger in the 2024 cycle in Trey Owens.

Texas has its sights set on the cream of the crop, though, as it leads the recruitments of five-star edge rusher Colin Simmons and wide receiver Ryan Wingo and cornerbacks Kobe Black and Corian Gipson, according to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine.

The Longhorns also still have a shot for On3 top-50 players in No. 2 wide receiver Micah Hudson, cornerback Wardell Mack and athlete Terry Bussey, but Texas Tech, LSU and Texas A&M lead those respective recruitments, according to On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine.
