Recruiting Roll Continues, Three-Star Cornerback Kevon Gray Commits to Virginia
Virginia is heating up on the recruiting trail once again. Just a few hours after landing their 10th verbal commit in the 2024 recruiting class, Tony Elliott and the Cavaliers reeled in commitment No. 11 as three-star cornerback Kevon Gray announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Saturday afternoon.
This is one of Virginia's most significant recruiting wins of this cycle so far, as the Cavaliers beat out several Power Five programs for Gray's commitment. Gray boasted offers from more than 20 college football programs, including Florida State, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Louisville, Kentucky, Kansas, Missouri, Florida Atlantic, Central Florida, South Florida, Memphis, Appalachian State, and James Madison.
Virginia jumped in with an offer on May 18th and Gray visited UVA on June 2nd. According to a report from Wahoos247, Gray had decided to commit to Virginia shortly after his official visit, but was planning on delaying his public announcement until closer to the start of his senior season. Instead, Gray pledged publicly to the Cavaliers on Saturday evening, becoming the third recruit to verbally commit to UVA in a 30-hour span.
On Friday afternoon, Virginia picked up a commitment from three-star wide receiver Triston Ward. The next day, the Cavaliers landed verbal commitments from three-star safety KeShawn Adams and then, just hours later, Kevon Gray.
A 6'2", 170-pound defensive back from Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia, Gray is ranked the No. 86 cornerback in the nation and the No. 113 overall recruit in the talent-loaded state of Georgia, per 247Sports. UVA has been on a successful Peach State recruiting binge over the last few weeks, particularly with defensive recruits. Gray is the fourth Georgia native to commit to Virginia's 2024 recruiting class, joining defensive end Chase Morrison (Roswell, GA), cornerback Jaylin Lackey (Snellville, GA), and safety Cedric Franklin (Marietta, GA).
