Corey Seager on Verge of Returning to Texas Rangers
Corey Seager appears on the verge of returning to the Texas Rangers after his third straight appearance with Double-A Frisco on Saturday.
The star shortstop is expected to play for the RoughRiders again on Sunday and, should all continue to go well, could be activated Monday, as the Rangers open a six-game homestand with a series against the the Atlanta Braves.
Texas manager Bruce Bochy indicated that's the timeline for Seager, who's been in the injured list since April 12 with a left hamstring sprain.
Seager started at shortstop Saturday for the second time with Frisco. He went 0-2 with a walk against Wichita (Minnesota Twins) and left the game in the seventh, as previously planned.
Seager grounded out in his first at-bat in the bottom of the first. Seager led off the fourth inning and he popped out behind the plate. He drew a walk in the fifth inning.
Seager was coming off a 1-for-3 game with a run scored Friday as the designated hitter. Seager was at short for Thursday's 1-for-3 debut, with his one hit being a two-RBI double down the right field line.
The American League West-leading Rangers (24-15) wrap up their four-game series at the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.
Before Seager was hurt, he was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.
