Texas Rangers Decision Nearing for Corey Seager Return
Decision time is growing closer for the Texas Rangers when it comes to the return of shortstop Corey Seager from injury.
Rangers Bochy told ESPN’s Baseball Tonight podcast that the club will make a decision after the series with the Los Angeles Angels concludes Sunday.
The American League West-leading Rangers (18-12) open the three-game set Friday night. From there, the 10-day trip through the division continues at the Seattle Mariners for three games followed by a four-game series at the Oakland Athletics.
Another decision to be made is whether Seager will do a rehab stint in the minor leagues. Bochy added that Seager isn’t “big on” the idea of going to the minors. He may not need it, as he’s been hitting in the cage for the last two weeks and participating in other baseball activities.
Bochy said Wednesday that Seager was about 7-10 days away from coming back. By that timeline, he could return before the end of the road trip. The Rangers aren’t committing to a date for Seager’s return.
Bochy has been clear that he would not bring Seager back into the lineup until he was ready to run.
Seager has been out of the lineup since April 12 due to a strained hamstring suffered while legging out a double. Seager suffered a hamstring injury once with the Los Angeles Dodgers and needed about a month to recover.
Seager was batting .359 with four doubles, a homer and seven runs.
