Reds Sign Alex Blandino and Reiver Sanmartin to Minor League Contracts
CINCINNATI — The Reds signed reliever Reiver Sanmartin and infielder Alex Blandino to minor league contracts earlier this month according to their official transaction page.
Sanmartin was non-tendered by the Reds earlier this month. They assigned him to Triple-A Louisville. He did undergo UCL surgery in July and he could miss most of the 2024 season depending on the details of the procedure.
The Reds acquired Sanmartin as part of the Sonny Gray trade. He posted a 5.77 ERA over 82 2/3 innings. The team officially announced the signing on Monday.
The Reds took Blandino in the first round (29th overall) in the 2014 MLB Draft.
He's dealt with various injuries during his big league career, including a torn ACL. He's versatile and can play multiple positions if called upon.
Blandino has a career .226 batting average. He last played in the majors in 2021, appearing in 43 games for the Reds.
