Cleveland Finding Success In The Paint During Winning Streak
The Cavs are currently on a five-game winning streak after their blowout victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night. This is their longest winning streak since back in the middle of December
Over these last five games, there has been a clear reason for the team's success and that's how efficient the team has been in the paint. This begins with the starting frontcourt of Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen.
In these last five wins, Mobley is averaging 19.4 points, 10 rebounds, and even 3.2 assists. He's getting done on the defensive end too averaging 1.4 steals and 1.8 blocks.
His best game was easily against the Pelicans in which he dropped 28 points with three steals and two blocks.
But Jarrett Allen has been just as effective in this same stretch. He's been putting up 19.8 points and 11.4 rebounds in the last five games. He's dropped at least 18 points in those games and has had a positive +/- in them as well.
The entire Cavs frontcourt has been dominating their front opponents. In the win streak, they haven't been outscored in the paint once by their opponent. Obviously, most of this can be attributed to Mobley and Allen but it shows that even when the guards penetrate the defense they're also finding success.
Cleveland has the dynamic backcourt of Darius Garland and Donovan Mitchell that most people want to talk about. However, the frontcourt will make defenses pay if they spend too much attention on the guards.
Being versatile, such as what Cleveland is showing here, is what will make them a team to watch in the playoffs.
