LeBron James Considering Retirement Following Playoff Loss
The Los Angeles Lakers losing to the Denver Nuggets wasn't that surprising. Denver has been atop of the Western Conference for the majority of the season and has arguably the best player in the NBA in Nikola Jokic.
The real shock came after the game when LeBron James admitted, "I'm simply not sure if I'll be back in the fall when the season begins," followed by a report from Chris Haynes revealing that James is considering retirement.
Will LeBron actually retire? Who knows. If he does we probably won't know for a little while.
The reality is that the basketball player LeBron James has shown limited signs of slowing down. He finished Game 4 with 40 points and averaged 24.5 points in the 2023 playoffs. This was after he played 55 games in the regular season at age 38 and averaged 28.9 points.
However, James is at a stage in his life where basketball is no longer his top priority. His children are growing up and going to college. What dad wouldn't want to see their son play in as many collegiate games as they can?
Perhaps LeBron was also speaking with Carmelo Anthony, a close friend of James, announcing his retirement from basketball.
J.J. Reddick had a fantastic take on the whole situation:
If LeBron does retire, then his legacy has already been solidified especially in a Clevland Cavaliers. The Ohio native promised the city of Cleveland a championship and delivered in 2016, a memory that all fans will remember long after James stops playing!
