Liddell Signs Deal With Pelicans
New Orleans, LA - The New Orleans Pelicans have converted E.J. Liddell's two-way contract to a full deal. NBA Insider Shams Charania first reported that the contract is worth $6.2 million, with a team option on the third season. The move by New Orleans sets the current roster at 14, the NBA league minimum required to start the season.
Due to a torn ACL he suffered during the first game of the 2022 NBA Summer League, Liddell was unable to play the entire 2022-2023 season. He returns to Las Vegas with the Pelicans on Friday, almost a year to the day of his injury. New Orleans says he will fully participate without restrictions in Summer League action.
Liddell, an Ohio State product, was selected by New Orleans in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft. He has been praised for his versatility as a scorer and defender in college with the Buckeyes.
In his final season at Ohio State, he averaged 19.4 points, 7.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.6 blocks, garnering First Team All-Big Ten honors. Liddell was also named to the All-Big Ten Defensive team that same year.
More expectations for Liddell to contribute this season in the frontcourt are expected. With the team moving on from Jaxson Hayes and Willy Hernangomez, he can get minutes at the backup forward spot. Given Zion's injury history, Liddell must be ready when his number is called upon.
