Chad Johnson on His Bengals Ring of Honor Entry: 'I Could Probably Officially Retire Now'
CINCINNATI — Chad Johnson met with the media following the Bengals' announcement that he'll enter the ring of honor this September alongside Boomer Esiason and "Ochocinco" kept it light in his normal joking fashion.
The legendary Bengals wide receiver described how overjoyed he is to be "here to smell those flowers" as the first player to enter the ROH that only played games in this century.
"I'm assuming I could probably officially retire now because I've been working out and hoping I get an opportunity to come back and play DB (defensive back) but it looks like that's out the window now," Johnson joked. "I'm a better DB than receiver, honestly. And I was supposed to be drafted, which many people don't know. I was supposed to be drafted as a DB. It was just unfortunate circumstances. I came in as a receiver. We just had too many DBs at the time so I couldn't switch positions."
Johnson never recorded any stats as a DB in college and things obviously ended up working out throughout his time as an NFL wide receiver.
The "position change" ended up producing Cincinnati's all-time leader in receptions (751) receiving yards (10,783) and receiving touchdowns (66).
He played for the Bengals from 2001-10. The talent made six Pro Bowls over that memorable run and was named a first-team All-Pro twice during his 10-year career in the Queen City.
