Craig Carton On Odell Beckham Jr. Signing With Ravens: 'Cincinnati Bengals Fans Are Panicking Right Now'
CINCINNATI — Craig Carton is "smelling fear" from the Cincinnati Bengals after the Baltimore Ravens reportedly signed Odel Beckham Jr. to a new deal.
The wide receiver's efficiency has steadily dropped off each season since 2018 (yards per route run 2018-21: 2.3, 1.9, 1.9, 1.6, including the playoffs), and he's coming off a major knee surgery that knocked out his whole 2022 season.
Still, Carton thinks Beckham is a scary sight on a $15 million one-year deal with up to $18 million through incentives.
"You can smell it," Carton said on The Carton Show. "You know what it is? Fear in Cincinnati. Yeah, because Cincinnati felt for the next 10 years with Joe Burrow, they're going to dominate the division. Well, if Lamar Jackson and Odell Beckham were on the Ravens last year and healthy, Cincinnati does not advance to the AFC Championship game. So if you're in Cincinnati right now, you're probably saying to yourself, 'What are we gonna do?!' I can hear it. I can smell it. These fans are in a panic right now in Cincinnati."
Beckham has not averaged over four-plus catches or 46-plus yards receiving per game in any season since 2019.
