Free Agent Cornerback Patrick Peterson: 'I Really Like What The Bengals Have'

Cincinnati is a contender once again heading into the 2023 season.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals need some more cornerback depth during this free-agency period and Patrick Peterson could be the answer.

The former Vikings cornerback had one of his best career seasons in 2022 and wants to play for the Bengals.

"I really like what the Bengals have," Peterson told Adam Schefter. "They have a quarterback. They have a great staff on the offensive side of the ball. I know Eli Apple is gonna be a free agent coming up. I feel I can come in there and help those guys you know because, obviously, you're going to be going up against other high-quality quarterbacks in the playoffs almost each and every year against Patty Mahomes. So you're going to need some quality cover guys that can kind of keep those guys in check."

Peterson posted an 80.6 PFF grade last season, which is the second-highest of his career since entering the league in 2011.

He could be a great replacement for Eli Apple and help mold a rookie cornerback if Cincinnati selects one in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Peterson still has something left in the tank as a cover man (82.5 coverage grade, fourth in NFL). Although, he will likely have to take a pay cut off of his projection. It's hard to see Cincinnati giving him a deal worth his $6.4 million Spotrac gauge.
