Orlando Brown's Contract Details With Bengals Surface
CINCINNATI — The Bengals made a statement with the team's first external free agent signing of 2023. Former Chiefs tackle Orlando Brown Jr. landed a four-year, $64 million deal from the team.
Brown earned $31 million guaranteed at signing, the most in league history for an offensive lineman.
Ian Rapoport reports Brown "gets 67.87% of the $64.092M fully guaranteed, with $42.3M through year two and $49.9M through three."
All in all, it makes him the 17th-highest-paid offensive tackle in the NFL. This is a massive bargain for Cincinnati, as Brown got a Spotrac projection of five years, $112.1 million heading into free agency.
The AFC North champs were one of five teams that hadn't added an external free agent before this big move.
The structure is the best of both worlds for Cincinnati. It still gets to cash in on Joe Burrow's dwindling time on a cheap deal, while structuring the deal to be palatable for years to come. The 26-year-old could also sign another deal with Cincinnati if he keeps playing good football and fits in well.
This franchise spent years and tons of resources on finding a franchise left tackle. Brown cements that search as the best player to man that position since Andrew Whitworth went west to the Rams.
