Ted Karras Praises Joe Burrow's Injury Approach: 'He's a Special Guy'
CINCINNATI — Ted Karras had one big takeaway from the first six weeks of the season: Joe Burrow gritted out a tough injury stretch for the team.
The Bengals center described what it meant to the offense that Burrow fought through his calf strain.
"Obviously we didn't have as much early success as we wanted," Karras said on Wednesday. "But when you see your guy (Burrow) who just signed a quarter of a billion dollar contract go out there on one leg and try to grit it out for the team. ... It's an 11-man unit out there, but it is predicated on his success and for him to go out there and show us that early in the season. He's a special guy, so I have to say I'm not on Joe watch. I don't know how he is. He looks pretty good. We had a good, crisp day to day. But I think the biggest thing that came out early in the season is everyone knows how tough this guy is and went out there and he showed it."
Cincinnati is still facing an uphill climb to the playoffs but a sweep of the NFC West by beating San Francisco this weekend would be another good step.
Cincinnati lost a half game to the entire AFC North during its bye week as the division boasts the most wins in the NFL. A "100%" Burrow may just get the Bengals back in the thick of that race.
