Cincinnati Bengals Free Agency Update: Latest on Mekhi Becton and Teair Tart Visits
CINCINNATI — The Bengals hosted free agent offensive tackle Mekhi Becton and defensive tackle Teair Tart for visits on Thursday and Friday.
While there's still optimism on both sides, it doesn't sound like the Bengals are going to come to an agreement with Tart or Becton on Friday night.
Becton has a natural connection with the team. Offensive line coach Frank Pollack helped draft him when he was on the Jets coaching staff in 2020.
They went out to dinner on Thursday night after Becton visited Paycor Stadium. Things "went well" during both visits.
Both players are solid fits for what the Bengals are still hoping to add to their team. Tart would help fill the gigantic void that DJ Reader leaves behind after signing with the Lions. New Cardinals lineman Jonah Williams leaves just as big of a hole at right tackle after starting all 17 games for the Bengals last season.
The Bengals hold Tart and Becton in high regard. They believe there's untapped potential with both guys.
Will Zac Taylor's coaching staff get the chance to get the most out of both players? Only time will tell.
Don't be surprised if both Becton and Tart visit other organizations before making a final decision about the team they're going to sign with.
These things can come together fast, but nothing feels imminent.
