Deshaun Watson’s six games with the Cleveland Browns in 2022 didn’t go all that well but it was not unexpected. Watson looked like a player that hadn’t seen the film in some time, which was correct. Despite the happenings last season, Watson was ranked amongst the best quarterbacks in the NFL by folks around the NFL.

ESPN ran a poll that involved players, coaches, executives, and scouts holding votes for the top quarterbacks. The voting went as follows:

  1. Patrick Mahomes – Kansas City Chiefs
  2. Joe Burrow – Cincinnati Bengals
  3. Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills
  4. Aaron Rodgers – New York Jets
  5. Justin Herbert – Los Angeles Chargers
  6. Jalen Hurts – Philadelphia Eagles
  7. Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens
  8. Trevor Lawrence – Jacksonville Jaguars
  9. Dak Prescott – Dallas Cowboys
  10. Matthew Stafford – Los Angeles Rams

Next up was honorable mention, the next five quarterbacks getting votes.

  • Deshaun Watson – Cleveland Browns
  • Kirk Cousins – Minnesota Vikings
  • Jared Goff – Detroit Lions
  • Derek Carr – New Orleans Saints
  • Tua Tagovailoa – Miami Dolphins

Additionally, three other quarterbacks received votes.

  • Kyler Murray – Arizona Cardinals
  • Daniel Jones – New York Giants
  • Justin Fields – Chicago Bears

Watson had a 7/5 touchdown to interception ratio last season with the Browns during those six games. He looked shaky, to say the least. But as time went on he looked like his former self at times, too. In his last full season in Houston, Watson threw for 33 touchdowns and 4,823 yards.

With the people around the NFL voting for Watson as the No. 11 quarterback, they believe he will bounce back to the latter version of himself. The Browns need him to due to the contract they gave him, as well as where they want to go as a team.

If Watson can be a top-12 quarterback even, he is franchise level and the Browns will take it. These rankings show that his peers believe he’s just that.
