We’re entering year two with Deshaun Watson in Cleveland but it’s really his first full offseason in terms of being normal. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is the first to admit that the six games with Watson last year didn’t go great, but there were things there that made you excited for what’s to come.

“There were some glimpses of elite quarterback play that we have all seen from him over the course of his career,” Stefanski said on the Rich Eisen Show Wednesday.

Cleveland went .500 after Watson returned last year and failed to make the playoffs. They operated the first 11 games with now Washington Commanders quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

“As a team, we were not perfect. We were up and down, I think we went 3-3 in the games that Deshaun played. As a player, there were some ups and downs.”

In terms of where Watson is right now, seems to be in a much better place. He had a great minicamp and was a full participant through the entirety of OTAs.

“I think where he is right now, hard to compare to a year ago, but I certainly see a comfort level in what we’re doing offensively, said Stefanski. “I see a guy that is always going to be leading out in front, that’s kind of who he is.”

This offseason, Watson grouped together a good part of the team and went to Puerto Rico for some team bonding, as well as some time to get some work in. That’s just an example of the leadership that Stefanski touched on.

“I’m excited about Deshaun, I think he’s really taken the bit in terms of leadership. He’s going to get the guys together over this break and throw.”

The Browns won’t be back as a whole team until July 22 when they travel to West Virginia to be isolated as a team for a week. It’ll be a great time for the team to get their season preparation kicked off without any outside noise.
