S Jessie Bates is on Browns Radar to Replace John Johnson III
Cleveland Browns may not have to look far for their replacement at safety after cutting John Johnson III. Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates is set to be a free agent, one that is on the Browns radar as well according to a report.
Bates is expected to leave Cincinnati figuring that the Bengals have some young stars to pay on their team very soon. Bates was a second round pick of Cincinnati the 2018 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Wake Forest.
Yes, Bates will bring what the Browns want on the back end. He intercepted a career high four passes in 2022, and he has intercepted three or more in four of five seasons. He is undoubtedly the top safety on the market.
With signing a big name player comes bug time money you have to spend. Bates will likely demand at least $15 million a season on the free agency market.
Cleveland has another need on the field and it's one that will need filled for new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to be successful. Signing a player like Bates would only help that cause.
