Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort 'Doesn't Foresee' DeAndre Hopkins Trade
TEMPE -- It's a night for the Arizona Cardinals that won't be forgotten for various reasons.
The Cardinals initially entered the night with the No. 3 overall pick, but finished by trading with the Detroit Lions for the No. 6 pick - which was used to select Ohio State OL Paris Johnson Jr. to improve protection for quarterback Kyler Murray moving forward.
Draft picks were dealt left and right, which also included a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles before the night began as part of a settlement of an issue surrounding tampering chargers in the recruitment and eventual hire of Jonathan Gannon.
There was smoke earlier in the day from Mike Florio of the Cardinals and Titans working on a deal that centered around the No. 3 pick and DeAndre Hopkins - something that obviously fell apart at some point if there was any merit at all.
After selecting Johnson, Ossenfort met with reporters and was asked about a potential Hopkins trade:
"I don't foresee that happening. I don't know what is going to happen here in the next couple of days. Right now I don't foresee that happening, no."
Before concluding his media availability, Ossenfort was asked if there was still a chance Hopkins could remain in Arizona.
"Absolutely. DeAndre is a Cardinal. So DeAndre is a Cardinal and we're moving forward."
Earlier, one report emerged from Baltimore that suggested the Cardinals and Ravens were nearing a deal for the Hopkins.
Whether that's Ossenfort being serious or simply playing tough in terms of negotiations has yet to be seen. Plenty of people outside of the facility here in Tempe believe the Cardinals will eventually move on from the 30-year-old receiver, though Arizona isn't exactly pressed to rid themselves of his presence.
