OUTLOOK: The David Cutcliffe disciple won teams over during team meetings and the interview process leading up to the draft. When Cutcliffe proclaims a quarterback as a first round pick, NFL scouts pay attention. His mechanics and smarts overcompensate for his lack of arm strength, which is why he is receiving first round consideration. A cerebral quarterback with great mentors in his life such as Cutcliffe and the Manning family, Jones originally committed to Princeton. He’s also known to be very humble, modest, well prepared and extremely smart. He graduated from Duke with a degree in economics before bypassing his final year of college eligibility and decided to enter the draft. He certainly ended his collegiate career with a bang, playing the game of his life in the Blue Devils rout over Temple in the Walk-On Independence Bowl and then earning Senior Bowl MVP honors for his in-game performance. However, he departed Mobile leaving scouts with a little bit more to be desired. Teams will gush about his intangibles but there are still some arm limitations that could hinder his development if asked to start right away.
