2024 NFL Mock Draft: Patriots Pass on Top QB, WRs Dominate 1st Round

New England's new management opts to wait on finding a franchise quarterback in this updated first-round projection for the 2024 NFL Draft.

No team in the NFL right now needs anything more than the New England Patriots need a new franchise quarterback, which is why most expect them to use the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to that end.

But that's not what happens in the latest 2024 NFL mock draft from Connor Rogers at NBC Sports, which has the Pats punting on the game's most important position with their top pick.

Even with USC's Caleb Williams and North Carolina's Drake Maye already off the board, the Pats could land LSU's Jayden Daniels with the No. 3 pick. This year's Heisman Trophy winner made huge leaps in 2023 as a passer, and his dynamic playmaking ability would immediately infuse New England's stagnant offense with some much-needed juice.

Rogers has the Pats passing on Daniels, opting for Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. instead.

Would the Pats pass on this year's Heisman Trophy winer?

It's hard to argue with taking the best overall player in the entire draft, especially at the No. 3 pick, and Harrison certainly has the potential to join his dad in Canton someday. But waiting until Day 2 to address such a massive need at quarterback could leave New England reaching for the likes of Oregon's Bo Nix or Michigan's J.J. McCarthy.

Harrison is one of seven wide receivers to come off the board in this first-round mock, three of which are projected in the top 10, as LSU's Malik Nabers (No. 5, Los Angeles Chargers) and Washington's Rome Odunze (No. 9, Chicago Bears), join Harrison in that range.
