Jets' Official Injury Report: Four Starters Listed as DNP Wednesday in Florham Park
The New York Jets were missing two defensive starters, a starting offensive tackle and their veteran kicker when Wednesday's practice commenced.
In all, eight Jets — four non-participants and four limited participants — landed on the official injury report as the team preps for Sunday's AFC East battle against the New England Patriots.
Safety Tony Adams and defensive end John Franklin-Myers were the non-participants on the defensive side of the ball. Adams injured his hamstring while tackling Dallas Cowboys' receiver CeeDee Lamb late in the first half of the Week 2 loss. Franklin-Myers is dealing with a "hip" issue that isn't expected to linger.
"[Franklin-Myers] he’s dealing with a hip, but he should be good to go for the game," said head coach Robert Saleh in Florham Park. "When you look at all the defensive guys with having played almost 90 plays [against Dallas], we’re just trying to take it easy on that side of the ball a little bit."
Left tackle Duane Brown did not practice as part of the team's planned strategy. The 38-year-old, who had offseason shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, is on a maintenance program of sorts.
"Duane Brown, normal, he won’t practice today," said Saleh.
Kicker Greg Zuerlein, who missed Sunday's game at Dallas due to a groin injured sustained in practice last Thursday, joined the group of non-participants. The Jets have the ability to re-elevate Austin Seibert from the Practice Squad should Zuerlein's condition fail to improve.
Following the same script from the past two game weeks, right tackle Mekhi Becton was limited in practice as he continues to rebuild trust in his twice surgically-repaired right knee.
"It’s the same thing, so [Becton] he’s on a program, so he’s always going to show up as limited, but it’s the same program," said Saleh.
Both Becton and Brown have played 100 percent of offensive snaps through the Jets' first two regular season contests.
Along with Becton, running back Breece Hall, slot cornerback Michael Carter II and linebacker Quincy Williams all practiced on a limited basis Wednesday. Limited is defined as anything less than 100 percent of a player's normal repetitions.
Like Becton, Hall has seen limited practice reps as he rebounds from ACL surgery. The second-year running back has been on a "pitch count" during the first two games.
Carter II nicked up his elbow in the second quarter against Dallas and did not return although Saleh said he could've re-entered if needed. Williams hurt his knee on the late in the game on the last play prior to the 2:00 warning.
"He should be fine," said Saleh of the veteran linebacker on Wednesday.
As for the Patriots, only two players — defensive lineman Davon Godchaux and cornerback Marcus Jones — missed practice while seven others were limited.
Godchaux's absence was non-injury related. Jones injured his shoulder early in the second quarter against the Miami Dolphins while tackling Jaylen Waddle after a 28-yard gain. He left the game after the play and did not return.
