Seahawks 90-Man Countdown: DT Myles Adams - Defensive Line X-Factor?

Primed to see an uptick in playing time after developing in a reserve role over the past two seasons, Myles Adams' versatility and athleticism could make him a key piece of a retooled Seattle Seahawks defensive line.
In this story:

With the calendar flipping to June and offseason activities wrapping up league-wide, the Seattle Seahawks will open training camp at the VMAC in less than two months, officially ushering in the 2023 season.

To celebrate the new incoming season, we'll be detailing every member of the Seahawks 90-man roster over the next several weeks, exploring best and worst case scenarios and what to expect from each player entering the 2023 campaign.

Myles Adams, Defensive Tackle

Height/Weight: 6-2, 290 pounds

2022 Stats: 14 tackles, one tackle for loss, four pressures

Initially joining the Seahawks after a brief stint with the Panthers late in the 2020 season, Adams returned on a future/reserve deal and enjoyed a stellar preseason, but it wasn't enough to make the 53-man roster for the 2021 season and he returned to the practice squad. When injuries and COVID-19 issues impacted the team's defensive line in the second half, however, he received his first NFL regular season action in a pair of losses to the Rams and Bears, impressing the coaching staff in limited snaps with quality quickness and penetrating ability, earning another future deal.

Finally breaking through in 2022, Adams avoided being waived during final roster cuts and won a reserve role along the defensive line. Though he was a healthy scratch for seven games, he still played in a career high 10 contests, setting personal bests in tackles and defensive snaps seeing action as a 3-tech defensive tackle and nose tackle. The team brought him back with a tender as an exclusive rights free agent in the spring.

Best-Case Scenario: As one of the few remaining players from last year's defensive line, Adams seizes his opportunity with another stellar preseason while playing snaps at multiple positions, carving out a substantial rotational role in a new-look group and setting himself up for a quality contract as a restricted free agent next March.

Worst-Case Scenario: Undersized to play extensive snaps at the nose tackle spot and losing out on snaps at the 3-tech position behind veteran Mario Edwards and rising rookie Mike Morris, Adams manages to make the roster but only dresses for a handful of games as a frequent healthy scratch.

What to Expect in 2023: Ever since entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Rice, Adams has made steady progressions each year, growing from a fringe practice squad player into a viable rotational NFL defensive lineman over the past three seasons. Despite being on the smaller side for his position, he plays with great leverage and a quick first step makes him tricky to block in the interior, helping him find his way into the backfield as a rusher and run defender.

Unlike prior seasons where Adams faced long odds of making Seattle's 53-man roster due to the bevy of experienced veterans in front of him on the depth chart, the departure of Al Woods, Poona Ford, Quinton Jefferson, and Shelby Harris leaves a clear path for him to play substantial snaps across the defensive line. Even with newcomer Dre'Mont Jones signing a massive three-year deal and Jarran Reed returning for a second stint as projected starters, he should be a key contributor for a revamped defensive line that will look to be far more effective than last year's group.
