Diontae Johnson Calls Super Bowl for Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers believe they could pull it off.

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have plenty of optimism surrounding them as they head into the 2023 season. With Kenny Pickett as the leader and a new group of offensive and defensive weapons, the hype is high for how good this team can be.

Can they be a Super Bowl-caliber club, though? Wide receiver Diontae Johnson says yes.

During an appearance on the Steel Here podcast, Johnson was asked about whether or not he believes the Steelers can win the Super Bowl.

"Of course. No doubt," Johnson said. "I feel like this is the year. People can say what they want to say, but when you’re out there playing alongside these guys, you can just feel it. But if you’re not, you can’t, really, so you won’t understand."

It makes sense for the Steelers to believe this could be their year. In the NFL life cycle, they're sitting in the perfect spot to make their run. They have a second-year quarterback who appears ready to take the league by storm, a defense full of superstars and depth, and young - and older - offensive weapons for their young QB to feed. Add a Hall of Fame head coach and an upgraded offensive line and it's the perfect mix.

"Pickett’s development over the second half of the season was impressive, and even if his interception rate doesn’t stick, the Steelers valued him as a potential franchise passer in Round 1 of last year’s draft for a reason," ESPN's Bill Barnell said about Pittsburgh's Super Bowl odds. "If he makes the same second-year leap as Carson Wentz made for the Eagles in 2017, you know how that ended for Philly."

Week 1 calms or rises the hype surrounding the Steelers. But until proven otherwise, there's no reason to doubt the belief of Johnson.
