Kenny Pickett: Steelers Didn't Make Good Enough Adjustments
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers failed to get much of anything working in the passing game during a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
In the wake of a performance in which he completed just 15 of 28 passes for 108 yards and no touchdowns, Steelers starting quarterback Kenny Pickett said the offense was thrown off by some new defensive looks the Browns played with and didn't make necessary adjustments
"They play a lot of man-to-man, but they didn't play a lot of man-to-man today," Pickett said. "They threw a lot of zone looks at us today, different zone looks. We were expecting them to come in and play man. We have to adjust better."
Pickett added that he thought the Steelers came into the game with a game plan that was enough to win with. They aimed to get the ball out quickly against a furious Browns pass rush loaded with stars and just didn't execute that plan well enough. He gave credit to Cleveland for outmaneuvering the Steelers' plan.
"They do that to just about everybody," Pickett said of the Browns pass rush, which sacked him three times and broke up three passes. "We came with a good plan. We thought it was a good plan. You just have to execute. I thought our o-line did a great job. I was trying to get the ball out as quickly as I could. We tried to keep them off balance with some draws and screens, but they're a good front."
Pickett took some blame as well, adding that he was not up to par against the Browns.
"Consistency," Pickett said when asked what was missing form his play. "They are a great defense. Hats off to them first, but we didn't play and I didn't play nearly well enough."
