NFL Fines Steelers Rookie Nick Herbig

The Pittsburgh Steelers rookie was hit with his first fine of the year.

PITTSBURGH -- The NFL has hit Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Nick Herbig with a fine for unnecessary roughness in the team's Week 10 win over the Green Bay Packers. The league penalized the outside linebacker $5,101 for his violation in-game. 

Herbig was fined for a blindside block in the second quarter against the Packers.

This is the first time this season Herbig has been fined by the league. The Steelers, on the other hand, had a short break in Week 9 of being fined for on-field play. It didn't stop the NFL from handing wide receiver Diontae Johnson a $25,000 fine for his words on the officials, but no penalties were listed on the league's Gameday Accountability site. 

This season, the Steelers have been fined roughly $800,000 by the league prior to Herbig. Taking the bulk of those financial losses has been running back Jaylen Warren, who has been hit with over $90,000 in fines. As an undrafted player, he was fined more than his game check twice this season. 

Herbig could appeal the fine, which, across the league, results in a lesser amount more than half of the time.
