Steelers Sign Former Falcons LB Mykal Walker
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed inside linebacker Mykal Walker from their practice squad to their 53-man roster following the loss of Kwon Alexander.
Pittsburgh placed Alexander on Injured Reserve after the 29-year-old suffered a torn achilles in Week 10 against the Green Bay Packers. In his place, the Steelers have added Walker, a former fourth-round pick for the Atlanta Falcons.
Walker spent three seasons in Atlanta, playing at least 16 games per season and starting 12 in 2022. He recorded 107 tackles, six pass deflections and two interceptions last year for the Falcons.
Walker told All Steelers that he could bring another element to the Steelers' inside linebacker room, and feels confident he can fill their need without Alexander.
"My experience. My versatility," Walker said on what he brings to the room. "I've done it before. I've had the green dot before. I've played games, I've played in big games. Just my experience that I have out there and being able to call upon the coaching staff anytime I have it. I'm gonna ask questions all day long. [There's] never a guy in the locker room who think he knows everything. More certain for seeking for help, seeking for answers and stuff like that. I think what I bring to this room is experience and more versatility."
Walker is expected to start in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns alongside Elandon Roberts. With him, Elandon Roberts and Mark Robinson having starting experience, Pittsburgh will likely lean on all three through the second half of the year.
