Najee Harris Calls for Meeting After Steelers Loss
PITTSBURGH -- With the sting of a 13-10 defeat to the Cleveland Browns still fresh on his mind, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris was frustrated.
“There’s just a lot of stuff that goes around that you guys don’t see," Harris said. "I’m just at a point where I’m just tired of this s***.”
Another lifeless performance from the Steelers offense - just 259 total yards (4.4 yards per play) and 10 points - had Harris exhausted, at a loss for words, and calling for the unit to meet so they can address their struggles head-on.
“We’re going to have to talk as a team," Harris said. "That’s the best way to say it. … Just all of us offensive players.”
Harris took responsibility for his own play after he gained just 36 yards on 13 total touches, saying he felt like the Browns were trying to minimize his role in the Steelers offense.
The Steelers held a players-only meeting after Week 4 when they lost to the Houston Texans and came out of the loss with a more efficient run game. In wins over the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers the two weeks prior to the unsuccessful road trip to Cleveland, the Steelers had been averaging 185.5 yards on the ground per contest. They lost that momentum against the Browns, but Harris says the mistakes the Steelers made are fixable.
Even after the ugly loss, the Steelers still sit at 6-4 and right in the thick of a competitive AFC playoff race, but Harris doesn't think the team is living up to expectations. He said leaning on the defense while the offense sits stuck in neutral is no way to be a competitive team at this level of football.
"You can do two things. You can look at the record and think we’re good or you can look at the record and be like ‘If we keep playing this type of football, how long is that shit going to last?’" Harris said. "I look at it like ‘How long that shit going to last? Y’all can say that it’s a good record but it’s the NFL. Winning like how we did is not going to get us nowhere."
