Steelers Still Looking to Add Slot WR

The Pittsburgh Steelers want another weapon for Kenny Pickett.
In this story:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't done in free agency just yet. After signing a few offensive linemen and some new defenders, the team is switching to their skill positions on offense - eyeing a slot wide receiver option either on the open market or in the NFL Draft.

Speaking with the media at the annual League Meetings, general manager Omar Khan said that the team is looking for their style of slot receiver.

"We’re looking to upgrade at every position, so, I’d say yes, we’re obviously going to look at the slot position and identify what the slot means to us," Khan told SteelersNow. "The slot receiver for everyone is a little different."

One can assume the Steelers' "style" of slot receiver is a bigger body. After trying to move JuJu Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool inside in recent years, they've more recently brought in Ole Miss wideout Jonathan Mingo for a pre-draft visit.

The former Rebel stands 6-foot-2, 220 pounds and has even played off-ball tight end during his time in college.

The NFL Draft will be one outlet, but Khan said the team is still diving into the pool of free agents. Jarvis Landry remains the most notable name on the market, and could make his way back to the AFC North after spending a season in New Orleans.

The thing is, the Steelers have negotiated with wide receivers and haven't been able to land deals. So, they need to find the right player who's as interested in them as they are the player.

"We’ll keep evaluating what’s out there," Khan said. "There is still a lot of good players out there. As much as we’re interested in them, they’ve got to be interested in us. We’re still going through that process. That has not stopped."

Expect more signings to come from the Steelers as they get closer to the NFL Draft. Wide receivers coming to Pittsburgh for pre-draft visits shouldn't slow down anytime soon, either.
