Steelers Place DB Keanu Neal on IR
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers are shutting down safety Keanu Neal for at least the next four weeks, placing him on Injured Reserve as he recovers from a rib injury.
Neal left Week 10 after being tackles on an interception. He was unable to practice the following week and was ruled out for Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns. He'll now be sidelined for the next four weeks, at least, before being able to return.
The Steelers have already activated Diontae Johnson, Anthony McFarland, Pat Freiermuth and Cam Heyward from Injured Reserve, meaning they have four spots left to bring back from short-term IR. The league allows eight players per team to be activated.
Without Neal, the Steelers will work with Damontae Kazee, Elijah Riley and Miles Killebrew at safety, with practice squader Trenton Thompson being elevated. Fitzpatrick has missed the last three games due to a hamstring injury and it's unknown when he'll return.
