Two Steelers Named Trade Targets for Saints
LATROBE -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have an abundance of offensive linemen and could find a trade partner in the NFC who may be willing to pay for added big men.
USA Today's SaintsWire named six players who could be on the team's mind in lieu of an injury to offensive guard Trai Turner. The former Steeler signed with New Orleans in the offseason but suffered a quad injury that is going to land him on Injured Reserve this year.
So, the Saints need a guard, and the Steelers have a few that could be negotiated in a trade before the end of training camp. According to SaintsWire, those guards are Kevin Dotson and Kendrick Green.
"Pittsburgh’s third-round pick in 2021 (out of Illinois), the 6-foot-4, 315-pound Green started at center as a rookie but was moved to left guard in 2022, where he backed up Dotson. Both players might be available now that the Steelers signed Isaac Seumalo in free agency earlier this year. He was fouled 6 times in 2021, with 4 holding penalties," SaintsWire writes.
Truthfully, it does make sense for both players to be on the market for the Steelers. After the signing of Isaac Seumalo, Dotson is competing for a backup spot against Nick Herbig. Chances are, Herbig holds the upper hand after signing with the team in the offseason.
With rookie Spencer Anderson having experience at all five positions and William Dunkle also on the 90-man roster, Pittsburgh could find a replacement for Dotson that makes the trade easier.
As for Green, he's competing at center in training camp but has spent most of his career playing guard. Herbig, Anderson and Seumalo have experience at center as well, and Ryan McCollum has been mentioned by general manager Omar Khan as a name to watch as the center backup.
With both players still on their rookie deals, they're going to be appealing names for any team looking for offensive line additions. And if the Saints call, Pittsburgh should feel comfortable working out a deal for either player.
