CINCINNATI — CJ Fredrick is the newest member of the Bearcats basketball team. The Kentucky transfer guard chatted with Fox19's Joe Danneman about his choice to come back home to the tri-state area.

Fredrick wants to get back to the player he felt like at Iowa two seasons ago.

"I want to have that swag back," Fredrick told Danneman. "I want to be able to, you know, do the things I used to be able to do. And obviously, a big part of that is, you know, having a healthy season, getting back to being me. That's what I want to do. For sure."

Fredrick had thoughts of hanging up his college sneakers and moving on from the sport, but he's not ready to go out on an injury-riddled stretch.

He played in 27 games last season after missing every game but one in 2021-22.

"That's the most emotions I've ever, you know, brought out," Fredrick said about the end of UK's 2022-23 season. "There was a little thought of man, you know, maybe just these bad breaks, maybe it's time to move on and then when I had time to like, let my emotions out and get past that. I just love the game too much."

Fredrick shot over 46% from three as a Hawkeye, something UC fans are hoping translates in Clifton, along with better health for the latest Hometown Hero.
