NCAA Notifies Schools Two-Time Transfers Could Lose Season of Eligibility if They Play During Two-Week Restraining Order Window
CINCINNATI — The NCAA has thrown another wrench in the two-time transfer waiver saga as the organization sent a notice to schools Thursday that a player will lose a year of eligibility if the two-week temporary restraining order allowing players to play is reversed on Dec. 13.
Yahoo Sports reporter Ross Dellenger released the full statement on X:
In this case, it appears Cincinnati will continue to be without forward Jamille Reynolds until a full decision in the federal lawsuit is handed down on Dec. 27.
Cincinnati has one of its hardest games to date this season on Saturday against Dayton and if Reynolds were to play, he could lose one of his two years of eligibility that he entered the program with this offseason and continue sitting should the courts reverse course.
The NCAA also noted that no transfer waivers/appeals will be granted in this time window and all of that processing is being paused until Dec. 27.
Also, UC (as a program) will not be punished as stated in this Q&A if it plays Reynolds, but he would have to make that decision and risk being put back on the bench (if the courts don't make the restraining order permanent) until his own appeal is processed.
At that point it could be denied and he would sit the entire season, while losing a year of playing time.
