Dee Wiggins, Braden Smith Fully Healthy, Ready For Fresh Start at UC: 'Feel Like I'm Better Than Ever'

Cincinnati has a completely overhauled receiver room in 2023.

CINCINNATI — Dee Wiggins and Braden Smith are both healthy as 2023 fall camp gets rolling for the Cincinnati Bearcats. The pair of friends are looking to drive a big season in the wide receiver room.

The duo spoke to the media after practice on Thursday. Smith and Wiggins roomed together at Lousiville before transferring to Cincinnati.

"Dee's my guy man you know he was my roommate at Louisville," Smith said about their bond. "Got really connected there and fortunately we're able to link back up in Cincinnati. So just trying to really push each other, hold each other accountable knowing we're two older guys in the receiver room. I think we've done a great job of trying to set the standard here."

Smith caught 21 passes for 215 yards and 1 touchdown in Scott Satterfield's offense last season. He also flashed his throwing arm a few times, completing six of his nine pass attempts for 146 yards and a touchdown.

The 5-foot-10 weapon was a starter in 2021 before suffering a rough season-ending knee injury that seemingly lingered into last season. Now, he's fully healthy and ready to compete in the revamped receiver room.

"Very Explosive," Wiggins said about his teammate. "He knows the playbook more than me being in the offense longer than me so being able to play with him is a blessing for me and the rest of the receivers in the room and the quarterback, O-linemen, basically the whole team. So being able to play with him it's going to be a great show out there."

Wiggins dealt with a toe injury as well last season that slowed him a bit during spring football. He's right with Smith at 100% health.

"I'm back now, I feel like I'm better than ever, to be honest with you," Wiggins said. "I'm ready."
