Emory Jones Discusses Reuniting With WR Xzavier Henderson: 'We Definitely Have a lot of Chemistry'
CINCINNATI — UC football season is just around the corner as an old QB-WR connection finds fresh life in a new home. Expected starter Emory Jones discussed his excitement to rekindle his Florida chemistry with wide receiver Xzavier Henderson.
Henderson is arguably the best receiver in the room now and has the most experience against top-tier competition coming from the SEC.
"It definitely helps me because he played with me in 2021, the year I started at Florida," Jones said last week. "Just having a guy like him who has some experience. He's fast. I mean, we definitely have a lot of chemistry. I threw a couple touchdowns to him over the past couple years. So I mean, I'm excited."
Henderson ranked 22nd among 33 SEC wide receivers with at least 50 targets in PFF Grade last season (67.1). All a year after he caught 26 passes for 277 yards and 2 touchdowns from Jones.
The playmaker has two more years of eligibility but he and Jones would surely love to leave college for a shot at the NFL if they both perform to their ceilings in Jones's final year.
"Just let him know what he would be getting himself into if he came to Cincinnati and that's just having a really big support system," Jones said about how he convinced his friend to come north. "That's something that we really pride ourselves on is just having a really good support system. And, you know, I mean just working hard. And you got Coach Niko (Palazeti), in the weight room. I mean, he's probably one of the best strength coaches in the country. That's what we're looking for, just being able to work hard."
