CINCINNATI — Bearcats cornerback Coby Bryant is making a number change ahead of UC's Cotton Bowl battle against Alabama. According to Bearcat Journal's Chad Brendel, Bryant is swapping No. 7 for No. 8.

Bryant started wearing No. 7 in 2018 when he switched from the No. 25 threads he wore as a freshman. The new number appears to be an ode to the late Kobe Bryant.

The Jim Thorpe Award winner is looking for every edge he can get as Cincinnati prepares for arguably the toughest test in program history. Get used to seeing No. 8 flying all over the field instead of No. 7, as Alabama and the rest of the college football world adjust.

The New Year's Eve CFP matchup against Alabama kicks off at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
