Scott Satterfield Breaks Down Brendan Sorsby, Quarterback Additions as UC Wraps Signing Day

Cincinnati is starting a new era at the position.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati football head coach Scott Satterfield had expansive thoughts on his new quarterbacks on Wednesday as UC welcomes Samaj Jones in the Class of 2024 and former Indiana quarterback Brendan Sorsby.

Sorsby's experience, transfer portal price tag, and stature give him a leg up in what will still be a full competition this spring and summer.

"It's just about coming in here competing with the other guys that we have with Lichty (Brady Lichtenberg and (Brady) Drogosh, and Samaj, all these guys are gonna be competing this spring," Satterfield said about the position.

He broke down Sorsby at length. The redshirt freshman had some starting experience down the stretch for the Hoosiers and is a player this staff can mold for multiple years.

"We like the fact that he's a big player," Satterfield said about Sorsby. "He's 6-foot-3, 230 (pounds) brings great size, so in the pocket guys that are trying to push the pocket or even maybe getting a hand on it. He's not easily swayed in the pocket, he's gonna be able to stand strong in that pocket and still make those throws that you have to make down the field. And sometimes you get hit and he showed that on film. He also showed the ability to get out of trouble and also to run the football."

Sorsby won't break many ankles but with better run designs and this strong returning offensive line, he can boost a 2.6 YPC mark in 2023.

"The fact that he does have years (left after 2024)," Satterfield concluded. "I think was huge for us because of the time and effort you put into somebody in the spring and summer and the fall. You'd like to be able to get that back a little bit more too."
