UC Quarterback Evan Prater Switching Positions to Wide Receiver
CINCINNATI — Big 12 Media Days produced an interesting position change on the Bearcats' football roster.
Head coach Scott Satterfield confirmed to the media that Evan Prater is switching from quarterback to wide receiver.
"The big thing for him this spring is that his shoulder wasn't completely healthy," Satterfield said via a transcription from The Athletic. "But he's a great athlete, we want to get him on the field, so what's the best way to get him on the field? Let's move him to wide receiver. He was all about it, and once we made that move, he's 100 percent at wide receiver, he's been meeting with them, training with them, and he's looked really good. It's exciting for coaches and teammates for him to have an opportunity to get on the field and play. I think he'll really help us out there playing wide receiver. You're talking about a big guy who can run, he's really competitive, and he has a great makeup to be a really good wideout."
Prater struggled mightily in his 2022 action, producing 423 passing yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception on 53% completion. That amounted to a 26.9 ESPN QBR and an 0-2 record as a starter.
The issues continued this spring, albeit with an injury he dealt with throughout. It was enough for me to project Brady Drogosh as the second-string quarterback and the coaching staff echoed those thoughts by making the position switch.
Wide receiver is a thin position for UC even with some beefing up via the transfer portal so Prater could find a role early if he shows sound hands as one of the offense's best athletes.
"Evan Prater has looked really good at WR. He has great hands and has been really physical throughout summer ball," Satterfield said on Thursday.
