Look: Xavier's D'Artagnan Statue Egged Overnight, UC Students Guard Oscar Robertson Statue
CINCINNATI — UC Students are burning the midnight oil to make sure the statue of Oscar Robertson doesn't get vandalized this week, but it doesn't look like Xavier is putting in as much work to safeguard their famous sculpture.
Local 12 reporter Kristen Cornett posted a photo of Xavier's D'Artagnan statue after someone egged it on Wednesday night.
The statue welcomes fans into the Cintas Center and was dedicated in the arena's inaugural season 21 years years ago. No reported damage came back to Robertson's statue yet. Bearcat students have been guarding it throughout the week and Wes Miller paid them a surprise visit on Wednesday night.
"We know going to Norwood," Miller said on Wednesday. "Going to Xavier [pronouncing it 'eggs-Xavier'] is going to be a new experience for us, but we're going to lean into it. We're excited about it."
The Musketeers have won the last two Crosstown Shootouts and seven of the last 10 overall. The Bearcats students are making sure to defend their home turf and (allegedly) put the "eggs" in "eggs-Xavier" at the same time.
The two schools settle another score this weekend in the Cintas Center. Tip-off is Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
