2026 UC Target Michael 'Mike' Johnson's HS Coach Details The Quarterback's Traits

Coach Owens breaks down his fast rising prospect.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Cincinnati has been targeting 2026 quarterbacks as of late. One of the newest names to receive an offer is Michael “Mike” Johnson.

Johnson is a 2026 quarterback from Dutchtown High School and is unranked on a major service. He measures in at around 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and one of his coaches (Coach Owens) who is the recruiting coordinator, quarterback coach, and offensive coordinator spoke with All Bearcats about his athlete’s skills and ability.

“Mike is a competitor, he wants to win in EVERYTHING that he does,” Owens stated to All Bearcats. “This mindset pushes him to prepare for games that way. He studies film, asks questions, and works hard in the weight room to push himself toward greatness. You combine that with what he does academically and he is a coach’s dream.

"Mike is not an athlete playing QB, he is a QB that is an athlete. He can make every throw that you want, the deep ball, the intermediate throw, the swing to the back, and the out route from the opposite hash. And to go along with the arm strength, he has accuracy. Then when things break down, he can extend plays with his legs to keep drives going or end them by putting 6 on the board.”

Owens dove into his personality.

“Mike has this personality that just draws people to him. teachers love him, the Principal loves him. His teammates love him. I believe much of this is attributed to how humble he is. With all the attention that he receives, starting his freshman year when he led us to the Final 4 with a 12-2 record, he was always the same. That hasn't changed with the attention that he continues to receive. In the QB group, he is like another coach, he works with the younger QBs with their techniques and understanding the playbook,” Johnson’s coach stated. “He sets up throwing sessions on the weekend with the WRs. He leads by example, he doesn't miss practice and you don't see him in the hallways at school. He is not a Ra-Ra guy but he gets his guys ready and they enjoy playing with him.”
