Georgia Tech Drops Game Three And the Series To Boston College
Georgia Tech came in today with a chance to win a series against the No. 14 team in the country, but there was some uncertainty over who would be starting on the mound for the Yellow Jackets today.
Cody Carwile got the start today and while he has been working as a reliever this season, he has stepped up in big moments and Tech was counting on him today.
Drew Compton was not in the starting lineup today and this is what Georgia Tech decided to do:
1. CF- Jake DeLeo
2. 2B- Kristian Campbell
3. RF- Stephen Reid
4. IF- Angelo Dispigna
5. DH- Jackson Finley
6. C- Jack Rubenstein
7. 3B- Nicholas Romano
8. 1B- John Geisler
9. SS- Jadyn Jackson
The Tech offense struggled yesterday, but they got off to a great start in this one.
After DeLeo struck out to start the game, Campbell walked, and Reid singled to put two runners on base. That gave way to Dispigna, who blasted a three-run home run to take a big lead at the start of the game.
It did not take long for Boston College to strike back though and even the game up.
Carwile hit the leadoff batter and then after a flyout, Peter Burns advanced to second on a balk. Carwile walked the next batter, and Patrick Roche tied the game up on a three-run blast. Although he got a pair of strikeouts to end the inning, it was not the start that Carwile needed, especially after the offense -put three early runs on the board.
Campbell doubled for Tech in the 2nd but was left stranded.
BC looked as if they were going to add more runs on in the 2nd after a double and a single put runners on the corners with just one out, but a well-timed double play kept the game tied at 3-3 heading to the third.
Finley singled in the top of the third but was left stranded.
After two quick outs at the bottom of the inning, it looked like the game would be tied heading to the 4th, but the Eagles bats got going again and took the lead for the first time in the game. A single led to a 2-run home run from Boston College and they had a 5-3 lead. After another single and walk to put two more runners on, Carwile's day was done and Jackson Vaughan was coming in to relieve him. Vaughan got a quick out and the third inning was over.
Georgia Tech cut the lead to one run with a leadoff home run from Giesler at the top of the inning to make it 5-4. After two ground outs, Campbell and Reid hit back-to-back singles to put two runners on with two outs. After hitting a three-run home run at the beginning of the day, Dispigna could not replicate it again and the game went to the bottom of the 4th.
Roche doubled for BC at the bottom of the inning and then BC got a walk, but Vaughan got a strikeout to end the inning and send it to the 5th.
Tech got two more runners on in the 5th but left them stranded.
After a one-out double from BC, Vaughan's day was done and Joseph Mannelly came in to replace him. Mannelly gave up a single and then a walk to load the bases, but he was quickly pulled after that in favor of Ben King. King got the final out for the Yellow Jackets and GT went to the 6th still trailing by one run.
It was a quick 1-2-3 inning for GT at the top of the 6th. BC got two runners on courtesy of an error and then a fielders choice, but no runs were scored.
After another quick inning for Tech behind the plate, Demitri Diamant came in to replace King and things got way out of hand.
In the seventh and eighth inning, Georgia Tech gave up 19 runs. It was a poor performance from the pitching staff and the worst of the season for the Yellow Jackets. Even though they cut the game closer in the eighth inning by scoring eight runs, they gave up 12 runs in the bottom of the eighth.
For the game, Georgia Tech allowed Boston College to score 24 runs on 21 hits. GT scored 12 runs and yet they did not stand a chance in this game due to poor pitching, which is hindering this team in most games this season.
