Could Five-Star Defensive Tackle David Stone Take A Visit To Georgia Tech?

Stone is the top-rated defensive lineman in the country

David Stone is one of the top high school players in the entire country and is being sought after by every program in the country. He has recently been to visits to Miami, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M. Miami, Michigan State, and Oklahoma have been considered the favorites for Stone for a bit now, but there are other schools that are still vying to get him on campus.

One of those schools is Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets offered Stone back on January 5th and there is a recruiting connection that could help GT in their pursuit. Georgia Tech defensive line coach Marco Coleman was at Michigan State last season.

Stone had an interesting tweet today that could mean Georgia Tech could be on his list for a visit soon.

It could mean nothing, but the connection with Coleman is enough to where you can wonder if that relationship could pay off with a visit from one of the best players in the country.

247Sports has Stone rated as the No. 7 player in the country and the No. 2 defensive lineman.

Here is the scouting report on Stone courtesy of 247 analyst Andrew Ivins:

A disruptive force in the middle that wins with an explosive get-off and heavy hands. Transferred into the national powerhouse that is IMG Academy in advance of his junior season and carved out a role right away up front for a team that finished ranked No. 5 in the MaxPreps Top 25. The type of interior lineman that offers plenty of value as a pass rusher as he quickly shoots into the backfield and gets to work. Ability to cross opposing linemen and collapse pockets is without a doubt promising, but shouldn’t exactly be viewed as some one-trick pony as he also understands how to shed blocks and eat up gaps. Changes directions better than most of his peers, which isn’t surprising given his streamlined build (measured just under 6-foot-3, 270 pounds in Spring 2022). Will need to keep progressing and take to coaching, but should be viewed as a potential difference-maker at the Power Five level, especially with his length (has a near 7-foot wingspan on file) and scheme versatility (has played a variety of different techniques at the prep level). Likely will need some time before he’s ready for a significant number of snaps on Saturdays, but could work his way into the rotation sooner rather than later in obvious passing situations with his burst. NFL upside."

There is still a long way to go here and nothing may come of it, but this is something worth monitoring over the next few months.

The 2024 class for Georgia Tech is headlined by four-star quarterback Jakhari Williams (Macon, GA). Williams has been the building block for Key in this class and is going to be the quarterback of the future for the Yellow Jackets.

2024 Commitments

  • Duke Watson (RB)
  • Santana Alo-Tupuola (IOL)
  • Jordan Boyd (DE/LB)
