Updated ACC Football Recruiting Rankings: 6/2
Official visits for programs across the country are starting this week and recruiting is going to be the hot topic across college football for the next month or two until fall camp starts. Programs in the ACC, like Georgia Tech, are trying to capture momentum and carry it into the season, but where does each ACC team rank in the 247Sports recruiting rankings as the month of June begins?
Georgia Tech is 9th in the ACC in recruiting right now, but there is room to move up. The Yellow Jackets have six commitments and are welcoming in an interesting group of visitors this weekend. Among visitors will be three-star athlete Trey Horne (Rabun Gap, GA), three-star defensive Amontrae Bradford (Statesboro, GA), quarterback commit Aaron Philo (Bogart, GA), three-star defensive end Landen Marshall (Andalusia, AL), offensive line commit Santana Alo-Tupuola, running back Matthew Fuller (Jesup, GA), running back Khamani Alexander, and athlete Kamron Mikell (Statesboro, GA).
Having commits like Philo and Alo-Tupuola will be huge for the weekend and they will be trying to recruit all of the uncommitted prospects to join GT's 2024 class.
When looking at the top of the rankings in the conference, there are a couple of surprises. One team that is not necessarily a surprise with the top class in the ACC is Florida State, who has two five-star commitments currently. Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell has been known to get high-level prospects in the portal and if he can mix that with high-level recruiting at the high school rankings, FSU will stay in the national conversation beyond this season.
Wake Forest, North Carolina, Pitt, and Clemson make up the rest of the top five. Wake has 17 commits with an average rating of 86.51, which could suggest that the Demon Deacons are only ranked so highly because of their number of commits, not the quality. I would be surprised if they stayed this high.
Seeing Clemson at No. 5 is a bit surprising, but it is still early. Expect the Tigers to climb as the summer continues.
Louisville, Miami, and Virginia Tech are 6, 7, and 8, respectively. I am interested to see if Jeff Brohm can reel in a top-half ACC class in his first season and it should be worth keeping an eye on to see if Miami can gain any momentum on the trail and finish with the best recruiting class in the ACC once again.
The bottom of the recruiting rankings in the ACC are Duke, NC State, Syracuse, Virginia, and Boston College.
BC, UVA, and Syracuse all have three commitments or less. Wake leads the conference with 17 commitments and Florida State leads the ACC in average recruit ranking, holding a 90.45.
