Georgia Tech basketball received huge news tonight as last years leading scorer Miles Kelly opted to return to Georgia Tech instead of staying in the 2023 NBA Draft.

In April, Kelly declared for the 2023 NBA Draft but maintained his NCAA eligibility. Kelly was not invited to the NBA Draft Combine. Today was the deadline for Kelly to decide if he was going to stay in the draft or return to Georgia Tech and he is opting for another year in Atlanta and the chance to play for new head coach Damon Stoudamire.

Kelly averaged 14.8 PPG and got in double figures in 25 games during this past season, including setting his career high in a single game with 30 points against Syracuse on February 28th. He also set the program record for free throw shooting percentage (89.83%) in a single season. He averaged 14.6 minutes per game as a freshman during the 2021-2022 season and shot 40.7% from the floor and 34.7% from three-point range.

This adds to what I think has been a successful offseason for Stoudamire. Kelly brings back experience and scoring ability and will mix in nicely with the transfer class that has been brought in.

Guard Deivon Smith, guard Tristan Maxwell, center Cyril Martynov, forward Freds Pauls Bagatskis, forward Jordan Meka, and center Rodney Howard have all entered the transfer portal and some of them have found new places to play. Howard and Smith have been contributors over the past couple of seasons, but the others had small roles

Kowacie Reeves (Florida), Ebenezer Dowuona (NC State), Tyzhaun Claude (Western Carolina), Tafara Gapare (UMass), Amaree Abram (Ole Miss), and Jalen Forrest (Presbyterian) are the transfers joining the program this offseason.
