Report: Georgia Tech Wide Receiver Leo Blackburn Tears ACL

Talented wide receiver suffers another setback due to injury

According to multiple reports, Georgia Tech wide receiver Leo Blackburn has suffered a torn ACL. Bryce Koon first reported the news earlier today and the report was later confirmed by Ken Sugiura at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

This is indeed a tough setback for Blackburn, who has been battling injuries during his time at Georgia Tech. He sustained a season-ending injury in fall camp ahead of the 2021 season and did not play. He got a chance to play at times last season and flashed his talent.

Blackburn finished the 2022 season with five catches for 81 yards and one touchdown.

Georgia Tech is already searching for new playmakers at the receiver position with the departures of Nate McCollum, EJ Jenkins, Malachi Carter, Ryan King, and Kalani Norris. New transfer additions Christian Leary, Abdul Janneh, and Chase Lane are going to be expected to take a bigger role with Blackburn out, as well as guys like James Blackstrain, D.J. Moore, and others. Freshmen Bryce Dopson, Eric Singleton, and Zion Taylor will have more opportunities for playing time with this injury news.

Don't count out Brent Key and offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner possibly looking in the transfer portal for another receiver when the portal opens back up.

This is no doubt a big blow to Georgia Tech's receiving corps, who was looking to count on Blackburn for a big season in 2023.

Best wishes to Leo during his recovery!
