Kentucky was able to take down the Akron Zips, but there are some things that still need to be cleaned up.

Devin Leary had a much better game, but the Cats need to stop shooting themselves in the foot.

What can we take away from the Cats 35-3 win over the Akron Zips?

Lots left to fix

The Cats shot themselves in the foot multiple times in this ball game. Whether it's a fumble, a holding call that brings back a TD, or a bad snap, the Cats need to stop making silly mistakes. The Cats only had five penalties, but they really did happen in big moments that hurt UK. The Kentucky pass catchers have dropped lots of passes that need to be caught. Dane Key and Barion both didn't have much involvement in this ball game. A win is a win, but with Vandy on deck, the Cats need to fix lots of things before next Saturday.

Ray Davis is explosive

Kentucky Wildcats running back Ray Davis (1) dives into the end zone to make the final Wildcat touchdown against EKU Saturday. Davis had 52 yards rushing and 36 years receiving with one touchdown, Sept. 9, 2023.

Ray Davis had a big game for the Cats, totaling 72 yards and a touchdown on the ground and 97 yards through the air and another score. Davis is one of the best running backs in college football and showed off his explosiveness in this ball game. He will face his old school next week when the Cats head to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt.

Tayvion Robinson is really good

Tayvion Robinson had another big game for the Cats, catching five passes for 86 yards and a touchdown. With the disappearing of Key and Brown, Robinson has been Leary's go-to guy these past two games. Robinson is a really good player, and it's great to see him finally shining in this offense. Key and Brown both need to get going sooner than later if this Kentucky offense is going to figure things out.

What's next?

The Cats will head to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores next Saturday at noon. We will have all the coverage you could ever need right here at Wildcats Today.
