NOTEBOOK: Ohio State Offense Shines in 63-10 Victory Over Western Kentucky
The No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes put up a strong performance Saturday, defeating the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 63-10 at Ohio Stadium.
The Buckeyes came alive after a slow start in the first quarter, scoring 35 points in the game's second frame to enter halftime with a 42-10 lead over the Hilltoppers.
A plethora of Ohio State players contributed to the decisive win, starting with quarterback Kyle McCord.
The Mount Laurel, New Jersey native was named Ohio State's official starter during Ryan Day's weekly press conference on Tuesday, and the added trust with which McCord was playing showed in his numbers.
McCord threw for 318 yards and three touchdowns while posting an 83% completion percentage (19-of-23).
On the other end of those scoring receptions were two of Ohio State's most well-known receivers: Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka.
Harrison Jr. was the first of the pair to score, setting a new career-long with a 75-yard catch to put the Buckeyes up, 21-10. After that, Egbuka scored back-to-back touchdowns to end the first half with Ohio State in front by the equivalent of four touchdowns.
Even with the success passing, the Ohio State rushers weren't to be forgotten. TreVeyon Henderson finished the game with two touchdowns and 88 yards on 13 carries, and Chip Trayanum turned his five handoffs into 56 yards and a score.
It is safe to say that this was the game day the Buckeyes were looking for, especially as they gear up to take on the No. 9-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish next Saturday.
