PITTSBURGH -- A new entry to the transfer portal had the Pitt Panthers pouncing early to get in on his recruitment.

Texas A&M Corpus-Christi transfer Terrion Murdix, a 6'1 point guard from Springfield, Illinois, entered the transfer portal at the beginning of this week and almost immediately heard from Pitt alongside Ole Miss, Charleston, Iona, Utah, Southern Illinois, UCF, WKU, Seton Hall, Grant Canyon, Wichita State, Cal, Cincinnati, Siena, and High Point, according to George Michalowski of The Portal Report and Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Murdix started 30 of his 31 appearances this season and helped lead the Islanders to consecutive 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances. They topped Southeast Missouri State at the First Four in Dayton, Ohio, before falling to No. 1 seed Alabama in the first round. Murdix did not play in those games after suffering a devastating knee injury in the Southland Conference Tournament.

After tearing his ACL, MCL, PCL and Meniscus, Murdix is undergoing physical therapy and should be ready to go by December 15, he told Michalowski.

On paper, Murdix looks like an excellent fit for the Panthers in this, his final season of college basketball as a graduate transfer. He brings experience, a defense-first approach and scoring ability that will fit seamlessly into this younger Pitt backcourt on a team that figures to rely more on their defense than last year's squad did.

Murdix is the reigning Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year on the strength of a 98.3 defensive rating, 2.3 steals per game averaged and 1.5 defensive win shares metric. He also averaged 13.4 points per game, 5.4 assists per game, and 4.3 rebounds per game while knocking down 34% of his 3-pointers and 49% of his field goals a year ago.

The Panthers have one open scholarship remaining.
