PITTSBURGH -- Detroit Class Technical High School point guard Darius Acuff is only a sophomore but his recruitment is starting to take off. The Pitt Panthers are trying to get in early, so they extended an offer to the talented underclassman from Michigan.

Pitt head coach Jeff Capel and company became just the fourth program to have extended an offer to Acuff, a 6'1, 165-pound guard and the cousin of Duquesne and current Eastern Michigan standout Tyson Acuff. Michigan, Nebraska and Kentucky are the three others to have reached out to Acuff.

Acuff led Class Tech to its first state championship win last season, finishing with a 27-1 record while averaging 21.4 points and 5.7 assists per game. He was ultimately named 2022-23 MaxPreps Michigan High School Basketball Player of the Year. For his AAU team, The Family, he was named the top underclassman of the Nike EYBL Circuit's Session I after averaging 18.2 points on 60% shooting, 4.2 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

Acuff is currently No. 45 in ESPN's top 60 sophomores, the No. 2 player in his state and No. 10 at his position. They are the only recruiting site to have specific ratings and rankings for Acuff.

Per the 247Sports database, Acuff is the sixth 2025 prospect the Panthers have offered and the second point guard - with local five-star prospect Maleek Thomas being the other.
